Acid cleaning fliter

Have a Sta-Right cartridge filter that is starting its third year.

Also have two labs that love the pool.

I have heard that acid cleaning can really 'restore' the filter to original cleanliness. I also (memory is going) thought I read on this forum that if you acid qash a filter with dog dander, you will gum up the filter.

Any advise?

Here is a great discussion of cleaning a cartridge filter. The short version is that you should soak it in automatic dish washer detergent first and probably just skip the acid.

I had read that post a long time ago, but I couldn't remember the details. To many margaritas and cigars in the pool!

Went shoppig today for TSP. Wonderful, NY has gone phosphate free.

So, I went to the grocery store to look at Electrasol and Cascade. Cascade had the lead 6.4% versus 5%. But I found a brand named Glass Magic that has 20% phosphates.

Can anyone let me know if this is worth trying?

Any of the automatic dishwasher detergents will be fine. The Glass Magic might be a little better, but regular cascade will be fine.

With the emphasis on phosphates from the tSP, I wanted to get as much as I could.
