First day on the job.

I have only put a couple of chlorine sticks in the baskets at this point. We will be adding salt in another week or 2 and turning on the SWG at that time. The water looks great. No algae anywhere just some worms and such on the bottom. Not allowed to run a vacuum yet per builder. Seems like I need to keep tweaking it a bit. Where do you buy your supplies?

Just took numbers for second time and want to throw them out there to get some opinions.
FC=1
CC=.5
TC=1.5
CH=200
TA=120
CYA=22
Keep in mind I am only using Chlorine sticks in the baskets at this time. Started with 3 of them last week, added 2 to other skimmer 3 days later and then added 2 more yesterday. My plan is to go with the SWG starting nest week. My PB said he would sell me the salt to start up. I would rather do that myself. How much do I need to start up a 24K pool? What do I buy and suggestions as to where to buy it?

So is the water still clear? Did you increase CYA to 70 yet? I can see that your FC is very low. You never want that FC below 3, so increase it right away to the 4-5 mark. Watch it closely until the SWG gets adjusted to support that level consistently. Minimum CH for a SWG pool is 350, so you may need to increase CH soon. We also need to see your pH. That's very important.

By sticks do you mean chlorine sticks? No, I would stick to regular liquid bleach (plain) until you get the SWG dialed-in properly. It's quick and easy with no side-effects.

To increase CYA via granular stabilizer, place the required amount as calculated by the Poolmath calculator into a white sock and suspend it near a return jet or in the skimmer. Best not to allow undissolved granules to rest directly against the pool surface. Squeeze the sock periodically to help it dissipate. Once dissolved, consider your CYA adjusted to that programmed (target) level, although the test readings may take anywhere from 24 hours to a few days to fully register. Confirm CYA in about one week before adding any more stabilizer/conditioner.

CYA is done, thanks. My next purchase is the bulk salt that I will need. I did see that at Lowes as well. The question is, how much do I need to start up a new 24K pool?

great. BTW you dont need to buy the pool salt they sell in the pool section. get it from the section for water softeners. just make sure you get the one that is just pure salt. no additives for iron, etc. as a bonus its the cheapest one! you will save a few bucks per bag this way.

when you add the salt, make sure you go less than you expect to need and then test. much easier to add a few hundred ppm than to remove it :)

Pool math says 0-3400ppm in a 24k gallon pool takes about 683lbs. We recommend a salt test kit to test the water before and after you add.

i would add 500 lbs first, then retest after a few hours after its dissolved...then add more to get to desired amount.

So.........Finally yesterday after not seeing or barely hearing from our PB since the finish was applied and the water added in mid April we had an appt to fire up the SWG and show me how the pool equipment works. I had the kids add 480 lbs of salt in the morning and stir it around to help it dissolve. Pool heater was inspected in the morning and we were looking good to go. PB shows up at 5:30 as my wife is putting pork chops on the table, spends 10-15 mins trying to get SWG to work and then tells me its not communicating, its too late to call Pentair Service and I'm leaving for the long weekend. Ill get back to you on Tuesday. Are you kidding me...

Does the pump and filter work? You can add FC with bleach or chlorine for now. I see you have a test kit. Use it and set your water up to the correct level. You can maintain your pool without the SWG.

Gurrrrrrrrr on the PB doing that :(

I have been maintaining the pool for a month now, no thanks to him. I asked him about the white ring on my dark finish (halfway down in the deep end) and he said its because my PH is above 7.2 and I should wait until fall and drop the PH way down to eliminate some of it. Why didn't he mention that to me when the water was added. Oh right....He wasn't there. Maybe I shouldn't pay my last payment (still waiting on jump rock and walkway stones) until he makes it go away. Thank you for what you do. I have been enjoying this site for a month or so and am starting to get a better feel for taking care of our new "toy". The pool porn has been great. I'm tempted to start a post of our construction pictures since everyone seems to enjoy them so much.
