What is this for?

I just moved into this house/pool.
This was sitting on the deck next to the pool.
Any theories on what it's for?
I'm guessing it is related to the pool cover.
It is made from particle board...not the most water resistant material


The pool wasn't closed this winter.

I suspect it was a float to keep the center of the cover from sagging into the water. You're looking at it upside down.

I suspect Richard is right, even if my first thought was a floating table to hold drinks in the pool.

And the idea of that stuff disintegrating into the water seems like a bad move.

I'll be researching before next winter as to whether we will close the pool.
An old local pool company here said their customers are about 50/50 on just keeping them open all winter.
