Installing SWG. TA is 130. Goal is 60-80. Is TA above 80 a bad thing with a SWG?

It depends somewhat on your fill water alkalinity and SWG usage. SWGs primarily raise pH due to the outgassing of CO2 from the formation of hydrogen gas at the cell plates. Because CO2 is removed, the bicarbonate alkalinity in the water is converted to aqueous CO2 and this reaction consumes a proton. This causes the pH to increase. So if you have high alkalinity water, the process will happen more quickly and you'll experience a high acid demand.
It is best to lower it as far as you reasonable can. This can sometimes be difficult to do if you have high TA fill water.

Not lowering it will lead your PH to rise faster. Adding acid to lower your PH will slowly lower your TA. So, you will need to test your PH every few days until you get a good understanding of how to manage it. It is important to keep your PH at 7.8 or lower.
