The line from my filter to my chlorinator dips below the ground. The bottom of this dip appears to go down to the water line of the pool. Would you know of the reason/benefit for this? Below is a picture of this line.
Vibration mitigation? Strange, P-trap wouldn't work well without a vent and I don't see a drain on the bottom for winterizing (oh nevermind - Florida). Maybe the plumber was paid by the fitting, ha. More likely, JeffChap is right and its and unusual local code.
Typically, traps like that are used on sewer/waste line to provide a liquid seal to prevent sewer gas from entering the building. Look under your sink and you will see an example.
Do you have a check valve between the pump and the filter?
If the bend below ground goes below your water line, then water will only drain back to the level of the water line in this bend. This will keep the pump primed with water. A simple check valve between the pump and filter would do the same thing.
