opening pools

I have maintained my pool for 9 years and never closed mine.. so I'm helping some people open there pools..Most of these pools are green nasty swamps, the likes of which I have never seen before.. what's the best procedure (way) to follow to obtain clear water for these people.. Their Pumps will already be up and running..

But I will warn you, some people will be very very resistant to pouring gallons of bleach in a pool. I tried to help my neighbor with his algae, but I absolutely cannot convince him that Clorox and chlorine are the same chemical. He is still struggling. I did all I could.
