Should SLAM continue with noted readings

Started TFPC method by SLAM process for pool. The pool water is currently clear. However there is a silty material on steps and floor (began as white/gray, now is a green/yellow) each morning/evening brushing. Should the SLAM process continue with following readings.

Thank you so very much,

Alan, Orlando

Silty - can you feel it? Is it slimy or soft and disintegrate when you rub it? Or rough and does not disintegrate while rubbing it? It sounds like dead algae to me rather than dirt that would be rough. You are winning the battle, but don't give up yet.

I am assuming your readings above are pre-additions and that you have been trying to keep the FC above 24. But since the levels have been below SLAM levels and because you are seeing something in the water I would continue the SLAM. An OCLT should be done in a day or two prior to dropping levels.

Good luck and you don't need to worry about re-testing CYA unless you drain water or its been a month or two. Very nice layout of your readings above!

I'm assuming you're dosing up to 24 ppm FC after each of these tests? Looks like your CC has gone away, which is good. I would keep brushing as you are and start performing the OCLT at your shock FC level. You still need to pass that criteria as well as the crystal clear criteria because you're still seeing some evidence of algae.

Let us know what your first OCLT looks like and keep at it!

IF it is in a easy are to get to with a turkey baster you can suck some up with it. Then you put a white paper towel in a strainer and squirt it out to see what it looks like then and when dried. Saying that I really think it is dead algae. Keep on with the SLAM and vacuum to waste if possible.

Hi Team TPFC help group,

Thank you for helping me bring the pool to TPFC test worthiness.
Plan to run through today, test tonight and then take OCLT readings in the morning.
FYI: the water is amazingly clear, sparkling, and and just a slight bit of white/gray silt found on steps and parts of pool floor during brushing. Unfortunately, I do not have a baster to pickup silt to test material type (thanks for process thought).

Again, great records. It really helps pull together the story. I think your OCLT will show your path forward. If no significant drop tonight, then you can call it dirt/dust and not organic.

One thing that i don't think has been mentioned is an algae search. I had a similar scenario once during a slam and I removed my ladder as recommended. The green crud that come out was disgusting and was my problem! It is also good practice to scrub the skimmer as algae can root in behind the weir. These last bastions of algae can live in areas with poor circulation where local FC levels can be lower than the larger pool volume. Try to do a thorough search and hopefully the OCLT will go well.

Good luck!

The OCLT will be telling. My pool almost always has some sort of silt in the bottom from being blown in, and it is especially bad now with the pollen blowing around.

With your pool any silt that blows in will almost always be very fine because of your screen enclosure.
