Been doing a lot of research and possibly looking at getting a swg. Do they work with any style pump? I have cartridge pump and curious if I would have to change to go salt?

Do you mean you have a pump and a cartridge filter? If so, the SWG is indifferent to filter types....it makes no difference.
Yes thats what i was getting at. Wasn't sure if I had to have a specific style filter to use one.

Is it more of a personal preference or is one method preferred over the other(salt/bleach)
They each offer differing benefits.
Bleach is generally the least expensive and the best form of chlorine you can use but probably the least convenient.
An SWG is perhaps the most convenient but has quite a bit more upfront cost.

Almost any filter, I've seen some older stainless filters that developed pin sized holes that leaked water. The newer filters are all plastic based and are fine with SWG's.
