While installing a deck on one end of my pool, digging for the post footers I found the bond wire. I hit it with the shovel but there was no distinguishable mark on it afterwards. Is there anyway for me to test the bonding is working? I thought I read someplace to take a multimeter and hook one end to the ladder, the other end to the pump bond lug. Does that sound right and if so what would should I expect to see on the MM?

There should ideally be no voltage difference between anything (water, ladder, pump, etc).
