Replacing D. E filter with cartridge filter /Hayward.

Well it's time to replace this old metal D.E filter 60 sq/ft( Pac Fab Nautilus S Steel NS-60), rust and pinholes/salt water. The pool is around 25000- 30 000 gal .
Looking at Hayward Star-Clear cartridge filters C900 or C1200. After a few phone calls, could not find an answer pointing to which one to use.

    C751 75 ft2 flowrate
    75 GPM
    gallons
    36,000 8h
    45,000 10h
    C900 90 ft2 90 GPM 43,200 8h 54,000 10h
    C1200 120 ft2 120 GPM 57,600 8h 72,000 10h
I am using a weak chinese pump rated 1.5 HP which brought pressure from 10 to 5. Very poor stream out coming from jet. Will replace it.

What would be a good recommendation for the pump? The pipes are 2" wide now with adapters to 1.5" on pump. Use 2" all along as well on filter?

    Thanks

    Welcome to TFP!

Forget the flow rates listed on the filter, they are maximums. You want as large of a cartridge filter as you can get for your large pool size and long summer season. 120sqft is way too small. You should have something around 400sqft.

I agree with Jason. Around 450 sq feet. Clear water and requires serving twice a season.

Thanks. I get idea. Four large filters inside. What about a sand filter? Less work it seems...

I love Sand filters. they work well, and are easier to my mind to care for.

Sand would be fine, but again you should get a quite large one, like 30" diameter.

Sand Filters are fine. Again you want to oversize for best operation. Because you have had a DE filter you may notice the water is not as clear with a sand filter.

Go big - Hayward C5025 if you can find one.

Cartridge filters are about $200 every 5 years or so. Cleaning is easy, but I recommend a "Filter Flosser" ($25 from amazon) to speed up the job.

I have no where to backwash to, so cartridge is my only real option.

If you go cartridge, and consider 400 sq ft, you might as well go with a 525 sq ft. It won't hurt to have more.
