I'm about to start a pool renovation - new surface, stone and tile. We've been having serious rainfall (El Nino rains!) in The Bay Area, Northern California. I'm concerned about my pool being drained to start this process. My pool contracter said they will drill a hole in the bottom of the pool to relieve any hydrostatic pressure. I'm worried that there is just too much water under ground right now to safely drain the pool. Should I wait or proceed?

25,000 gallon, IG pool, plaster surface, pool is approx 20 yrs old.

They can drill a couple of holes and that should work. How high is your groundwater? I have my doubts that the groundwater in Pleasant Hill is high enough to make a difference. You might call the city building department, public works or water department and ask about what the groundwater levels in your location.
