Well, glad it's at least working for you. I agree though, since it seems like such a common issue their own manual should have this information, or at the LEAST it should be one of the first questions from their own support.
Sounds like my ecostar that died about a month ago. From what I could determine from the trouble shooting that Hayward recommends it’s the drive unit that died. I’ve seen a few photos of some units that have had drive unit die and I have noticed a little burn spot right above the circle next to where the power wires connect and it says “mains”. My pump was about 4 years old. Here is a photo of mine.
Thanks for posting that. I had the same problem, and saw the burn mark in the same place (see pic). I replaced the drive with one from Amazon - Got one "Used - Like New" for $421. http://amzn.to/2hXNjIo Swapped it out and everything just started working again. It's just wiring and making sure it's bolted down. No wet work. Beats replacing the whole pump.
