Don't wanna re-paint fiberglass pool every year...Other options???

Hello all...

I just bought a house with a fiberglass pool last October. House built in the 1970s, and I'm assuming the pool is too (but not certain.) The paint on the pool (no idea if it's epoxy or what) is flaked off about half of it.

From what I'm being told, painted fiberglass pools have to be re-painted every 1-3 years. Made some phone calls and haven't found a pool company that will paint it, won't paint it myself, and want a more lasting solution to the problem.

What are my options? Any way to re-finish/re-texture, so the paint won't peel?

Should I consider it a hole in the ground and start from scratch? (I.E. Remove the old fiberglass and go with another material? Will cost monstrous $$ I imagine.)

Suggestions? Thanks in advance
