Hayward Vari FLo Valve

Hi All:

Just opened my pool today, and I am having an issue with my Hayward Filter, when its on filtration, there is still water flowiing to backwash, upon taking it apart, I find the spring inside, has a little rust on it, and this or something else is keeping it from pushing the inside plate down.

Anyone have a quick fix, or do I need a replacment Valve?

The most common cause is the spider gasket getting messed up in some way. The spider gasket should be completely flat, fully in it channel, and free of any obvious nicks or cuts.

Now make sure you know which Variflow (Multiport) Valve you have, to get the proper spider gasket!

Its not the gasket, it is intact, and in perfect order. It is the spring, when you push down the handled to change operations, it sticks in the down position, and when in filtration the bottom flange is never fully seated.

You can replace the spring itself rather than the whole valve or key assembly. If you do, be sure to replace the stem o-ring, washers, and non-metallic bearings as well.
