Waterfall Pump Upgrade

Hello All:

I am planning on upgrading my current waterfall pump ... Currently, I have a Hayward 1.5HP pump ... This pump only controls the 2-way waterfall ... My main problem is that I am not getting enough power from my main waterfall ...

The suction line is 2" ... The main waterfall has a 2" line, the small side waterfall has a 1.5" line ... I was given a used Hayward northstar 2HP pump, all I need to by is the unions for it ... But, then I started thinking, is it possible to upgrade to a 2.5HP or even a 3HP pump with my current 2" suction line..

I am using ball valves to control the flow of each of the waterfalls, I have to leave the main waterfall open all the way, and the side waterfall almost all the way closed to make the main waterfall look decent..

The pump is located right off the spa, approx 3 feet deep with 2 feet of travel to get to the suction side of the pump ...

I attached pictures of the waterfall, in order to get the main waterfall to look like this, the side waterfall must be closed or a small trickle...

I've often wanted to build a waterfall to go in ti my pool and while my knowledge on the subject is limited, I think another pump would work just fine.
