How many relays do I need (automationl

    Hello all,

I'm trying to determine my needs (wants) for automation. Currently set up for all Hayward equipment, but I understand the concept is the same regardless of brand.

What's confusing is how many actuators I'll be utilizing. I know that anything that requires power will potentially need a relay.

    Equipment/Features:
    - two 2speed pumps (2 relays each pump)
    - Spa blower (1 relay?)
    - LED interior transformer (1 relay)
    - Fiberoptic lighting (1 relay, maybe combine with LED transformer)
    - Waterbowls x 2 actuators (1 or 2 relays?)
    - Spa fountain (?)
    - Spillway (?)
    - Bubbler (?)
    - Solar and Gas heaters
    - Landscape lighting transformer (1 relay)
    - SWCG (?)
    - In floor Cleaner, does each zone need an actuator?

Planned on using the AquaPlus, but I think I may need more than 8 relays. The Omni looks promising, allows for expanding.

Thoughts? Does each actuator need a relay? I'm not sure which valves require actuators.

    Thank you

I'm going to subscribe here as I pretty much need some of the same questions answered. Hopefully someone will chime in soon.

    Disclaimer:
I'm not a Hayward guy. Although I don't think their valve actuators would need separate relays (other than the small ones mounted on the control board) to control them.

Your thinking is pretty much there.
Two speed pumps require a special relay.
If you are sharing a pump meaning it runs another water feature AND the bowls, (you would need) valve actuator. If dedicated pump, relay.
Same for Spa fountain, and spillway.
Bubbler, relay if using a blower.
    Solar, valve actuator.
Gas heater, share high speed relay for filter pump.
    SWCG same as heater
Infloor should have it's own water valve, and it's own pump (relay).

Re: How many relays do I need (automationl

Thank you. Just got phone with Hayward. Sounds like their system has an initial capability for 4 actuators, 4 HVR, and 4 LVR. Expandable to 8 actuators, 10 HVR, 8 LVR.

Pumps will take up 4 relays (hi/low speed) and every independent water feature/ valve will take an acuator spot? The blower takes a relay...but to only activate bubbler would also require valve control?

I'm also not sure what the LVR are used for...no wattage info that I could find
