Hi- I purchased a home about six months ago, which is the first home I have ever had with a pool. After doing some research and talking to people, I have decided to keep the pool open during the Winter. I have a Goldline Prologic system, and have confirmed the "freeze protection" turns everything (except the heater) on when the air drops below 34 degree (I put the sensor in a cup of ice water to test...) Here in Georgia, it definitely gets below freezing, but I think severe freezes are unusual. I do have a few questions, however:
Thank you in advance for your help!
- I have a Jandy 2 pool heater. I am guessing that water flows through the pool heater even when it is off, so the pool heater should avoid damage from the same flow when the pool pump is running, even though the heater is off. Is that accurate?
- I have read some things about draining the water from the skimmers. But other things I have read make it seem fine to leave the pool operating normally, and that the pump kicking on when the air falls below freezing will generate enough flow to prevent freezing damage in the system, including the skimmers. True?
- My main pump has an automated Jandy Valve that choose whether to send water to the pool (through the Paramount in-floor cleaning system) or to the spa. Obviously, when the pump is on "pool," water goes to the Paramount system, and when the pump is in "spa" or "spillover", water goes to the spa. I am wondering, however, what happens to the valve not selected during a freeze situation. Does the Goldline Prologic system automatically toggle between those two valve settings to make sure water is flowing in both? Or, does it only activate one of the two, and the other has a high risk of freezing?
- Is there anything special I need to worry about with the Paramount in-floor cleaning system? Or should it be fine, like everything else, as well as the filter runs during the times it is freezing?
Thank you in advance for your help!
