Cartridge filter size

Hello all,

Need some help choosing the best size cartridge filter for my pool. I have a 18,000 gallon screened in pool with a caretaker 99 (ugh..) system. I am removing the outdated and underpowered 3/4HP pump and DE filter that was in there.

So far I have selected a SP2302VSP from Hayward. It is a 1.5HP variable speed pump. Based off everything I have read it looks like a 90sf will carry the system.

What do you think?

I would suggest 250 to 300 square feet.

I'm with James on bigger is better for a cartridge filter, however, I had no interest in cleaning a big multi cartridge system . While my pool is only 11,000 gallons , I went with hayward single cartridge star clear 175 sqft filter. 90 sqft would be too small for your pool
