There is a leak in the liner and we are losing water at roughly 6-8" a day. As the water is too cold and the wife wants to get a new liner next year anyways what should we do? Do we just drain it/let it drain itself? Do we drain, Repair and fill (but how much)? We are worried about the walls of the pool from stories online if empty but is this common? Above ground pool 4' deep x 18' round...
The water is way to cold now to spend time in the pool as well

Hudson, What state?

Your walls are in real danger of collapse from many things---------wind, people, critters, etc. if there is no water in the pool.

I would drain it with a sub pump and find the leak to repair for right now. I would refill the pool with plans to keep an eye on it over the winter until you are ready to put in a new liner.

Do you know where the leak is? If it is in the sidewall, The water will stop draining when it gets there and you could try to patch it once it gets to that level. You could do it by leaning over the edge if you can reach it. If it is in the bottom, you could try to get a rubber patch over it and weigh it down with a brick.
