fractured and leaking pool steps

hi,
i have a pool what has fiberglass steps.
the last step has line crack about 8cm.
this is leaking pretty badly.
i have called out my pool person and was quoted £2500 for its repair.
before i fork out that amount i wanted to get the forums experience.
the crack is due to insufficient step support by the builder.

i am quite good with DIY. and have watched videos of fiberglass repair.
ie drain, cut out section of step, fill with support, fiberglass over.
the pool is vinyled lined, so am worried that if i drain the pool the lining will deform and tear.

or

use Aquamend and ask the kids not to use the steps...:)

your advice would be really appreciated.
many thanks Raj

Kids------you said the "magic" word.................SAFETY is the major concern here. Fix it solid and fix it right. You and I both KNOW the kids will step on it. They will not mean to but it WILL happen. One time too many and one of their feet will go through the step. Major harm to child and pool.

The liner will be a concern but IF it can be done fast you should be able to use it again. Plan ahead and have friends helping.

Good luck!

Kim
