The pump sounds fine in my IG pool. 1.5 HP. Put the filter is holding air and the water done not appear to be coming out as strong. Can it be the pump is working but on the way out? What would be a cause for the filter to catch half of the capacity in air rather than full water? Pump is Hayward and only 2 years old. 16x32 IG.

Generally when you find air in your system, it is due to air entering your plumbing from the suction side (from a drain or skimmer to the pump). Just like trying to drink from a straw with a hole in it, air gets in. You might want to use this page Pool School - Suction Side Air Leaks to see if you can find such a problem area. Try everything from that page, paying particular attention to the pump's pre-filter/skimmer basket O-ring. That's a popular spot for air to enter the system. Hopefully this will help resolve your issue.
