I am an owner builder and I started my new pool 36 hours ago. Pump running at 1500 RPMs (speed 2) 24/7. This is a pebble plaster. ~17K gallons

TA 100
PH 7.3-7.4
Chlorine 0-1
CH 150

I have 3 trichlor tabs in each skimmer. Questions:

1) Should I be concerned at this point with my chlorine being so low?

2) Should I be concerned about CH being too low?

3) Should I begin to add CYA?

4) I ordered a chlorine tab floater from Amazon that will be here tomorrow. Should I use this to fill with the trichlor tabs instead of putting them in the skimmers? If so, how many tabs should I put in?

Thanks!

Standard replies (in order) to your questions would be as follows:
1 - Yes, increase FC per Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart
2 - Yes, adjust per Pool School - Recommended Levels
3 - Yes, add per Pool School - Recommended Levels using the Poolmath calculator . For a SWG pool, your CYA should be between 70-80.
4 - No. Unless on vacation or away from your pool for an extended amount of time, do not use tabs/pucks. They increase CYA to an unmanageable level. Use regular liquid bleach to increase your FC until your SWG can maintain the required FC level somewhere between 3-5ppm.

After all of this however, if this is newly plastered pool, please read this page first: Pool School - Start-up New Plaster.

Hope this helps.
