DE Filter closing

Hi all,

First summer has been a success, pool has been sparkling all summer. Starting to think ahead to closing, I am going to attempt to DYI and I am curious about what I should do filter wise. I have not backwashed all summer, pressure only moved 1 psi all summer, and the pool has been immaculate. Is there a need to open my filter up and clean it come closing time? Or should I just backwash before I close for the winter? Thanks in advance!

I would back wash thoroughly and remove the grids from the filter and clean them very well. Then either store them inside or reinstall them in the filter for the winter. Be sure to leave the drain valve open on the filter over the winter.
