Intex 22' x 52" Round Pool Utah Winter

Hello all... First post here.. I've seen and read many posts about closing up above ground pools but not really any have addressed the fairly harsh winters we face here in Utah. This is what I feel my options are:

First-
1- Wait to H2O temp of 60 deg.
2- Skim, clean and drain water 6" below lowest outlet/inlet hole
3- Capoff inlets and outlets
4- Add winterizing chemicals
5- Add pool pillow, insert and cover

Second-
1- Wait to H2O temp of 60 deg.
2- Skim, clean and capoff inlets and outlets leaving full
4- Add winterizing chemicals
5- Add pool pillow, insert and cover

I've also thought about creating a PVC "tower" to se in the middle of the pool to keep the cover high enough to slough off rain and snow.

Also thought of putting a small inline heater in the pump and then circulate it 12 hours a day to keep it from freezing.

Thoughts, advice and any psychoanalysis would be appreciated...

Welcome. You do not need special winterizing chemicals to close your pool. What you should do is test your water with one of the recommended test kits and SLAM the pool and then drain below the returns. Cover the pool and call it a day or a winter. Do not make a tower or add a heater. You will never keep it from freezing.
