How can check to make sure main drain is working?

I paid extra for a main drain on my above ground pool supposedly do reduce vacuuming but it doesn't appear to have any suction when I touch it. Wouldn't you be able to feel it sucking even if just a bit. I kind of feel like it's not even working. Maybe its just there but not really hooked up. I just had pool installed a few months ago.

I can't feel any suction on my main drain normally. Do you have a valve to switch between skimmer and drain? I move the valve to all drain when I brush the pool and the dust disappears down the drain.

If you can turn off the skimmer and water keeps moving ... then it has to be coming from somewhere
