Cracked gauge port

Hi Openbar, I guess the short answer is, depends on how bad the drip. If it's not crack badly, you might be able to put some Teflon tape or pipe thread on the gauge threads and gently reinstall. But chances are it will only crack more when you tighten it down.

Someone will see this and maybe have an option that may work. I would think trying to seal it with some kind of glue or sealer would be a temporary fix, since ther will be anywhere from 10 to 20 lbs of pressure on the port.

Hope that helps, let us know what happens ;)

Another thought, depending on whether the port sticks out from the valve far enough, you could possibly put a small screw clamp around the port and after you reinstall gauge then snug clamp down to prevent it from spreading open any farther. It's temporary at best, but would get you through the season.;)

Just before you install the hose clamp (get stainless), unscrew the old gauge, clean both male and female threads and try sealing it again with thread sealant. The tighter you turn it, the more likely it is to leak so just barely hand snugged and see what happens.

If the sealant works, that won't be nearly as cheesy as a hose clamp.
