1/2hp whisperflo vs 1hp superflow

Long time lurker first time poster here. I have a 18-20k in ground pool. No spa or water features. I'm replacing my old Century pump. My options are 1/2hp whisperflo or 1hp superior. I'm getting some plumbing work done and pool contractor recommends the whisper flo because of efficiency. My pool service guy recommends the superflo.
So, I chose the superflo. Not installed yet.
Did I make the right choice?

Either one should be fine for your pool. The 1 hp will give more suction for manually vacuuming the pool, but that is about the only advantage.

Thanks zea3. Since I'm not sure exactly how many gallons my pool holds, is there a range? It may be as much as 25k. I'm not at home to measure and do the math.

You're probably close enough for sizing a pump. If you're looking to put chemicals in - then I'd want a much better guesstimate on gallons for the pool.
