AG Wall Padding and Gaskets

I'm getting ready to install my new pool liner and I will also be adding the foam wall padding.

My question is should install the skimmer, light and return gaskets between the liner and the padding or between the padding and the pool wall?

Does it matter?

I just googled it and it's recommended that the foam be trimmed about 1" around where the gaskets will be placed.

So it's between the liner and the pool wall. When trimming the foam, go 1” larger all around so the wall foam does not interfere with the gaskets and face plates
