Perplexed and frustrated. Please help!

Funny you should say toothbrush under there. I just did my "toothbrush" cleaning yesterday and found a tiny bit of green dust when I used it just on the underside of the skimmer plate where you cannot see! OUT you green stuff! OUT!

Yup! I keep a toothbrush handy and when putzing around in the pool I do my skimmers, returns, and around the lights.
Do me a favor and double-check your pool volume. It's 15x30x3.5, right? I get a higher volume which would raise your shock level a tad.
Yes, I used the pool calculator (at the bottom) to calculate the volume.

Okay. My bad. I was doing a rectangular pool, not oval. Thanks for checking! I am still getting a 16 for shock level. You were doing 15, right?
I had thought it was 15 but I've actually been bringing it up to at least 16 anyways.

Yep. While vacuuming I can see the hose about 3/4 way down to the bottom and a shadow of the rest of the hose and the vacuum head.
Thank you! No panic, just ready to be finished slamming and swimming. Especially with the weather. It's high 80's and we have no A/C on top of it. The kids are going crazy and driving me NUTS!!! Definitely becoming inpatient. But...
The FC stayed 16.5 from 11 pm until this morning. The pool is looking better but d finitely not crystal clear yet. Do I keep slamming until it does? This is the part I was confused about.

It is clear when you can read the heads/tails of a coin on the deep end.
If you can see the bottom of the pool clearly it is safe for the kids to swim.
Let your FC get just a tiny bit below your SLAM level and let those kids swim!!!!!!!! When they get out push the FC back up to SLAM.

FC = 14.5 and now it's starting to rain.
