Sediment Problems

Hello!
I am a second year inground pool owner.
I am seeing sediment, sand I believe since we have a Heyward sand filter, blowing right back in the pools when I vacuum.
This issue did not exist last year.
I have backwashed and rinsed multiple times and the sediment still flows into the pool.
The filter is not new, however I do not know it's exact age.

Your videos and explanations of how a sand filter works is fantastic.
Could this be an issue with the laterals?
The chemical levels are all within the required ranges.

A bad lateral is an awful good guess if you're SURE it's coming back in from the returns.

Probably if your laterals were broken, then sand will return to pool I would check for the spider gasket in the backwash valve, some type of channeling in the sand, and then the laterals last, because that requires you to remove all of the sand.

Yes, the sand is coming back into the pool via the returns. I can see it shoot out of both of them as I vacuum and also immediately after backwashing.
