newbie questions re leveling

We just purchased/assembled a 15' x 48" Intex round metal frame pool. We are first time pool owners and thought we had fairly level lot, ha, ha. The carpenter level on 2"x4" method showed about 1- 2 inch drop. After filling the bottom of pool, we noticed that the water level is not, well, level. At the shallowest end, we have about 5" of water, at the deepest about 8". We stopped filling, and are now pondering the next course of action. Is it advisable to drain some of the water, and back fill the low side just to get us through the rest of the season (about 1-1 1/2 months here in OK)? Or should we start over and level the whole site?
What in your experiences is the best way to measure the level of the pool site?

You need to start over. Don't backfill, it will settle. Dig out the high side so the whole pool is on undisturbed soil.

You can purchase a water level pretty cheap about anywhere and they are deathly accurate.

You need to do this right. And do not back fill the site as Dave says, it will settle. For every gallon of water in the pool weighs 8lbs.
