    New member from Zanzibar

    Dear all,

we are an Italian-Zanzibari family with 2 kids, 3 and 6yrs old.
In 2013 we opened our little guest house and this year we decided to add a swimming pool.
Like we did when building the apartments also with the pool we decided to do all by our self, from designing & projecting to following the digging, building, finishing process.
    What a job!!!
The fact is that Zanzibar is such a paradise to see at, but to live in it's totally different story... no one is expert enough and there are too many fakes engineers to fight with!
When we built the apartments we actually took an enginner, but everyday we had to double check all his job and finding Always mistakes was sooooo frustrating that we fired him and went ahead with our good common sense!
We decided to build the pool without doubts... we could do it by our self! And we did!! Looks Amazing!!!

Now... we've found you just in the past few days... and we just finished to fill the pool... well... right now!
So, the next coming soon step is: posting a new thread! We need your help guys!!

Hope to have a nice relationship with all of you and forgive us if our english is not perfect!
We also hope that our location is not a problem to be part of this forum/site... in case let us know and we will understand!

    Have a nice swimming day,
    Carola & Mado

Hello Carola and Mado! We are very happy to have you join the TFP site. Feel free to explore the TFP site and ask all the questions you need. There are lots of great people here ready to help. A couple things you should do right away:
    - Order the proper test kit from: TFTestkits.net. Either the TF-100 or Taylor K-2006 will work, but the TF-100 has more reagents to use
    - Find a local store that sell regular liquid bleach. That will be your primary sanitizing agent
    - In our signatures, you will find several links that are very good for you to know and have handy.

Other than that, we are happy to have you with us. Have a nice day.

    Hi Texas Splash!

Thanks for your advices... We were considering already the idea of ordering the proper pool kit online... will concentrate on that soon.
Regular liquid bleach... I'm sure the bleach available in Zanzibar has a very low percentage of chlorine and comes in only 1lt bottle for the cost of $1.5 each.
Honestly we don't think this solution will work for us, plus we will have tons of empty bottles to deal with
and Zanzibar is just getting started now with recicling material... we are not sure how this is going yet.

For now we must stay with powder Chlorine from the pool shop... this cost us $65 for a 20kg... is not too bad we guess.
We'll be happy to read your comment on this please
In the mean while we'll do our best to look all around for a better quality/size liquid bleach!!

    Thanks for now!

If you can not find a source for laundry bleach at a reasonable price, look for liquid chlorine for pools. It may be sold as liquid pool shock.

You will find that all powder types come with their own problems. They either add too much calcium or too much stabilizer (CYA) to the water.

I can't wait to see pictures of your pool! It sounds awesome!

We welcome anyone from anywhere! Pull up and chair and share your pool with us!

You can use anything you want to in your pool. Some is easier and better for many reason. Here at TFP we teach what each thing does to your pool so you can make informed decisions with your pool.

Is it easy to get water to fill your pool with there?

Powder chlorine will raise your CYA (stabilizer/balancer) AS your CYA gets higher your FC (free chlorine) will also need to be higher to keep ahead of algae. So long as you know this and are ready to drain some of your water every once in a while you will be fine. I am going to post a couple of links that will be helpful to you to learn what does what to your pool water.

Pool School - Recommended Pool Chemicals

    Pool School - Recommended Levels

Pool School - Chlorine / CYA Chart

Here is a link to my favorite toy here at TFP! It does all of the math work for you!
