I took apart and cleaned the filter cartridges. After getting everything back together, I added DE into the skimmer. Next thing I know, it's all shooting out of the returns. What happened? How do I fix it?

Ummmm... are you supposed to put DE in a cartridge filter??? 
I thought that you could slip a bit into a sand filter, and of course in a DE filter....but I've never heard of it on a cartridge to tell the truth?

Ah, good <whew!> When I saw that I wondered if it were a new pool and you weren't sure what type of filter it is?
Could you have damaged the filter material in some fashion when cleaning it which is allowing the DE to circulate through?
I hope one of our DE experienced experts will chime in here and help you soon.... I'm clueless. Sorry!

The only way for DE in a DE filter to get through is to get damaged fingers (or whatever it is that keeps the DE IN).
I will have to take it apart tomorrow and check them.

Once you find the problem with the filter and it's working properly the filter will catch the DE from the pool.
Hmm, cloudiness gone this morning. It doesn't appear that anything has settled on the floor but I'll have to investigate further this evening.
