You may be mis-understading the flow rates. 120 is probably the max its designed to run.
There is no reason whatsoever to run the pump that fast for normal pool filtering.
Your pool specifics and rest of your system will determine what your minimum flow rate will be - but since we've no knowledge of any of it, we cant make a recommendation.
I generally run my VSP so that I get about 30 gpm. This keeps my Saltwater generator happy, and provides enough flow for the skimmer to do its thing.
