negative/disappearing edge

our pool has a 6m negative edge and this creates many issues such as water missing the trough, balance tank overflowing, debris in the trough, debris in the tank, tank pumping until empty, continual adjustment needed to mix of pumping back up from tank vs skimming. How have others simplified or overcome all this?

Welcome to TFP!

The answer to most of your question is good up front design. The trough and tank need to be properly located and sized, auto fill system properly installed, grates, strainers, and check valves properly installed, etc. Debris will get in the trough and will need to be cleaned out regularly, but shouldn't normally cause a serious problem.

If you can tell us some details about your setup, pictures would be great, we ought to be able to give you some more specific help.

If water is missing the trough and the trough itself is pulling air, it sounds like your pump is oversized for your trough. You might have better luck if you sized it down, restricted it with a valve on the pressure side, or installed an intelliflo and dialed in the flow rate to suit your installation.
