Jandy 3 way valve operation

My pool equipment is higher than the pool with a self priming pump. There is a Jandy 3 way valve in the supply to the filter and waste. The inlet feeds the waste and the flow thru feeds the filter.

My problem is I can't get the pump to prime even after several minutes of running. I just want to make sure of correct handle position on the valve.

Welcome!

If the valve is between the pump and the filter, it should have no effect on priming, as it's on the pressure (outlet) side.

What you need to look for is a suction-side air leak. The most common ones are low water level, stuck skimmer flap, and shrunken, cracked, or dry pump lid O-ring. Lesser leaks are found in pump drain plugs, threaded connections, and leaking valves on the suction side.
