Tired of waiting......on Pentiar w/o guy, so have what may seem like a dumb question?

I ordered a back up pump, and it is supposed to be here tomorrow. It is the same identical pump. Can I just disconnect wires and unscrew top and side and change out? (see my photos from previous post herehttp://s298.photobucket.com/user/neverclearone/library/

The two fittings closest to the pump "appear" to be screw on.

Or do I have to cut PVC and all that (never done anything like that before.)

Please reply soon, on my way to Lowes for something else.

Yep. As long as a previous owner didn't do something really odd like I found on mine and the unions glued up tight you should be able to just un-thread the two unions and slide it out. You also have a union on your return side before your filter you could disconnect to make it easier.

Well, unless Pentair has changed their unions in some way or something over time. No clue on that but that should stand out when you get the new one if they have.

I had a pool guy put the other one on last July, I can text him and see if he glued hopefully not!
He was step dad to a friend of my daughters and installs "luxury" pools so this is his busy time and we are "small change to him." But he did help me out last year : )

Should be fine then. It's pretty hard to "glue" a threaded fitting. At worst may be some silicone or something. On mine, when we bought the house, the entire space between the fitting and the pump, as well as a bead around the back where the pipe comes out, was filled with a hard, clear "something", lol. Some kind of epoxy or something. Likely had bad, or unlubed O-rings and they fixed the leak their way

The people in this house "caulked (bath caulk)" around the pool light,LOL because of pool leaking . Turns out both returns (one was capped and still is) and the drain (according to pool guy.) We had the one repaired and do not use drain, only one return. Bought a special return jet (infusion jet) that helps circulate the water better. Hoping to dig out and repair other jet this spring. We have two large floods light pointed straight at the pool so really don't need the one in the pool.

IT'S HERE! IT'S HERE! Okay guys I need some help. I got my son-in-law to loosen the two fittings that go on the pump and I know how to wire it, including changing it to 110 (I think-saw that when I opened the back.) I just don't know about the water situation and what to shut off there to keep water from rushing out when I unhook it. Anyone out there can help me with that? It's in the 90's and this is what my pool looks like.http://i298.photobucket.com/albums/m...2015%20021.jpg
    and here is my equipment:

I would set the multiport valve on top the sand filter to "drain" and see if the valve on the pump inlet has an "off" position (or it could be just one line or the other.)

Either way, from your plumbing it looks like it's all above the waterline, so the worst that will happen is you'll dump the water from the pipe between the pump discharge and the multiport valve and/or you'll need to prime the inlet lines again.

Thanks Dustmagnet. I should have realized that myself. Guess I am used to dealing with my AGP I had in Rock Hill. Cross your fingers, if this throws the gfci, then I have wiring issues. and I did all I could do with that when it first started.

Oh, you didn't mention your current pump was throwing a GFCI. Is it on a GFCI breaker, or plug? If a breaker, what brand is it?
