Reducing Alkalinity

Hello All,

New pool owner here, just purchased house with a 13k gal above ground vinyl liner last week. I'm still reading through the forums to learn as much as I can but I did have a quick question. I just tested my water and my TA is currently 240 (well water) and my PH is 7.2. Per poolmath the recommendation is to reduce PH to 7.0-7.2 with acid and then aerate. If I'm already at 7.2 do I just need to aerate or still add the acid?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to TFP!

With TA that high, it will take a while, but it also makes your other numbers like CH all the more important to watch. I wouldn't add yet, but let the pH come up to at least 7.6 before hitting it again with MA. Even with all this, don't forget to be ever watchf of FC and Cya, making sure they are ways in sync in proper ratios to each other.
