pool connection question

Hi, this is the first time I've had a pool. I'm trying to figure out what this pipe does (attached first picture with connection). Can anybody help? It appears to be related to my return line as it's on the same level. Thanks.

Hi, welcome to TFP! It looks like it may be some sort of quick connect, possibly for a pressure side pool cleaner.

That's what it looks like to me too. A plastic hose is attached and "whips" around on the floor of the pool to agitate debris/dirt so it can be filtered.
