Mine finally came today and boy, it's complicated. Now for the FC do I aim for0.2ppm or 0/5ppm. There are different instructions depending on which I use.

For swimming pools it is best to do the FAS-DPD test by 0.5s, which gives you all of the precision you need.

Do the chlorine test first, PH second, and after that the order does not matter.

OK, first test and vial did not even turn pink, so I need chlorine...should I just go on and add the bleach or do all the tests first.

It probably doesn't matter but Id' go ahead test the pH and then add the chlorine. You can adjust the pH at the same time if you need to.

You can stop shocking when you pass the OCLT (You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & You have .5ppm CC's or less) & your water is clear.

What does your water look like?

Do a full set of sets since the pH may need adjusted first if you require a high level of FC for the shocking process.

We had the solar cover on it last week and when we removed it, it was green. So we vacuumed and shocked it. Now it's no algae, but a little cloudy.

Did you follow the Shocking Your Pool process?

Sounds like you will need to do that again and verify you pass the 3 tests to stop shocking.

That said, post up a FULL set of results so we can see what should be adjusted before you start.

No I used Shock It...Didn't know about this. So you're saying that I can use the liquid chlorine to shock the pool also? What reading am I looking for as a shock value?

Check the pool school button on the top right, your shock value depends on what your CYA level is.

After you test CYA, check the CYA/Chlorine chart. Shocking is a process and the FC shock level is listed on the chart, shocking can be done with any form of chlorine. Most prefer liquid. Adding chlorine daily is considered maintenance (even though the products are most often labeled shock).

It will take some time to get accustomed to the test kit, but after you get some experience using it and spend time reading here your pool will be very simple to take care of!

OK, trying again this morning. Question: it says to multiply drops in step 3 by equivalence in step 1. Step 1 says: for 1 drop = 0.5ppm, use 10 ml. sample. So what am I suppose to multiply the drops I count by? 0.5?

Yes. Each drop is 0.5 ppm with the 10 ml water sample.

Yes, if you're using the 10ml sample you multiply the number of drops by .5.

The reason they word it the way they do is because you can either use a 10 ml or a 25 ml sample. Just disregard the 25 ml sample and always use the 10 ml sample and multiply the drops by .5.

If each drop is 0.5ppm ... how are you reporting 0.10ppm which would be 1/5 of a drop? I think you have a decimal place error.

2*0.5 = 1.0ppm

Which is way too low. Look at the Chlorine CYA Chart. Your absolute minimum should be 4.0ppm (8 drops).

How does the water look? If the FC is that low and apparently the CC is also 1ppm ... you probably need to go through the Shocking Your Pool process.

Should I retest the FC tonight? I mean I know it will be high, so should I bother?
