    "Slight" Algae

No I didn't slam it because there was no need at the time. It was perfect. No, no one to help. The problem, as I see it, is the fact that the CYA goes so high because of the tablets I am putting in. I won't ever use that stuff again, but when on vacation I see no alternative.

    "Slight" Algae

    It WAS algae free.

    "Slight" Algae

I don't want to spend that much. I didn't ask how to fix it, bur rather how to avoid it next year. To answer a previous poster, our vacation is 7 days.

    "Slight" Algae

Yes, It goes down by about 2 ppm. I don't have a SWG. How much would it cost to change my system and how much trouble?

    "Slight" Algae

The wife used to take care of the pool with test strips. Green half the time. When I retired I got your kit, read this forum a lot and have solved my problems....well almost. Within a week after opening the pool I religiously adjust ALL of your recommended parameters (i.e, pH, CYA, CL, etc...

    High Bleach Requirements.

All my test results are mid range of what this site says they should be. I was just trying to save time and not have to type in all those numbers. (I'm just lazy) My FC target is 5, which is what you guys say it should be for 40 CYA. It was running only 1.5-2.0 every evening and that's why I...

    High Bleach Requirements.

Yes, it was tested and it DOES match the pool math. My question was "Why?". So, OK, the bleach is doing what it is supposed to do. I admit I didn't do the math last year, I simply added 1.5 every day and all was well.

    High Bleach Requirements.

I'm not in La Guardia, I'm at the other end of the state. It's been warm, but not unusually so. It's fresh CL, not last year's. 4 qts seems to bring it to the same level as 1.5 in the past. The overnight FC drop was 1.0, but the pool did have sunlight on it for a couple hours before I tested...

    High Bleach Requirements.

Have had a pool for 28 years. Struggled along for awhile and then found this site. Bought a TFT test kit and our pool has been PERFECT for 5 years now. Opened the pool 2 weeks ago. The water was crystal clear and virtually no dirt (a new cover last fall). Tested ALL of the parameters and...

Is there a Good Automatic Chlorinator?

I'm sorry, I should have been a lot more specific. Above ground pool, use bleach to maintain CL level. I want an automatic CL feeder. The one I had used a cartridge that lasted about 2 weeks. The ones I have seen (e.g. Hayward) use Trichlor tablets. I just want to buy a good one.

Is there a Good Automatic Chlorinator?

I had a good unit for about 25 years. It took a cartridge that lasted the whole 2 weeks we were on vacation. The sun UV finally corroded it and it needed to be replaced. The local dealer still sold the cartridges, but the unit was out of production. The alternative unit was a "Swimline" unit...

    Pool Hose Discoloration

Yes, trichlor. I only use that for the short period that we are on vacation and nobody is home to mind the pool. ALL other times its bleach because that's what i learned on this site. Still trying to figure out if the hose is going to disintegrate...

    Pool Hose Discoloration

Its an above ground pool in a northern climate. The pump and related hoses are removed to the basement in the winter. It's not UV related. The skimmer to pump hose shows no discoloration. The discolored hose is white now at the inlet end and grey at the discharge end, with a gradual color...

    Pool Hose Discoloration

Years ago I had a hose crack while on vacation, so now I replace them annually. I have 2 hoses - one from the skimmer to the pump, and the other from the filter back to the discharge into the pool. I buy the high pressure hoses that are grey in color. This year the return hose from the filter...

    Winter Cover Pillow

I have several River Rats already. We use them to tube down the river. I buy a new cover every year and the pillows come with them free.

    Winter Cover Pillow

That's the issue. Without the pillow, draining the water off is not as easy.

    Winter Cover Pillow

Had the pool for 25 years. Never had a problem before the past 5 years. Put the cover on in September with a blue pillow. By the end of October it was no more. Took the cover off today and it was deflated, full of water and at the bottom of the pool. The red plug was firmly in place and I...

    Closing Chemicals

24' round Cl bleach treated pool....Northern snow climate. The pool store sells a "closing kit" comprised of a gallon of "winter conditioner", a gal of algaecide and 2 gal of shock. You are supposed to put them in, mix with the filter pump and then drain below the fittings and put on the...

    TA ?

Now I'm sorry I asked the question. In the face of contradictory specifications, what is a person supposed to think? Now that I know it doesn't matter (probably), I'll just have another beer.

    TA ?

    I agree.
  21. G

    TA ?

OK, I found the chart now. However, the charts in the TF-100 test kit show different numbers (much higher) for bleach treated pool TA. That's where my concern came from. Thanks...
  22. G

    TA ?

Low end,yeah.....that's my point......LOL. The TF-100 kit says the min should be 100. (OK, it's not a "book", its the bible then.)
  23. G

    TA ?

My TA is 50, the book says it should be 100. Yes, I am wiping per the directions on the TF-100 kit. My pH has been a constant 7.5 all Summer. Never changed. Should I be worried? Should I get some baking soda and adjust it up? Or, leave well enough alone?

    Not Complaining, but...

My CYA was 50 at pool opening, but then we went on vacation and had to use an automatic chlorinator for the 10 days we were gone, so naturally it went up. Current results are: CYA = 60 Target CL = 5-7 Actual CL = 7-8, never once lower than 5 in the evening test pH = 7.4 consistently all summer...

    Not Complaining, but...

Oh No....I just had another thought.... This all started when I bought and received a new supply of chemicals. Could the CL test liquid that you add dropwise be less potent than the batch I had from last year? Thus, could I be getting a lower CL test result than it really is? I say that...

    Not Complaining, but...

The algae bloom was 2 years ago. Last year all was perfect, as I followed your recommendations. I was not "at the edge" because I was in the middle of the FC you suggest for my CYA level. Again today, full sun, 85, no wind, and i didn't even have to add ANY CL tonight.

    Not Complaining, but...

Today's weather was 80+ with full sunshine over my pool in my treeless backyard. Tonight's test showed still within the appropriate CL range, but I added a squirt anyway. Yeah, I'm sure weather has something to do with it, but even on hot days I'm using 1/2 or less. I'm sure nothing is...

    Not Complaining, but...

I've been following your methods and using your test kit and supplies for several years. All my algae problems are a thing of the past. This year, my pool has looked cleaner and more pristine than ever. However, I am hardly using any chlorine! In the past, to keep the CL at the right level...

    Test Kit Questions

Yeah next year, right. Mechanical parts in a kit should last the life of the kit. Two years is nothing. If others have had the problem, there is a problem. I don't care much for warranties. A warranty is only as good as the company that stands behind it.
