I have 2 surface skimmers and one is clogged with acorns/leaves I think. When I close the other 2 lines (one is in bottom drain) a little water spurts into the pump basket. I made a garden hose threaded pvc adaptor to pump it from the skimmer end but no relief. Any suggestions? I don't think...

I searched for filter sand level and found my own post from last year! You suggest throwing a little DE into the filter. What would this accomplish and wouldn't it just be backwashed out?

I would check with A-1 Pools in Las Vegas. They supplied me with a compelete pump/motor for about half what the local pool stores charged. The sell rebuilt motors too I think.

A freind in the pool resurfacing biz says that I need to add Stablizer after shocking the pool. What say y'all?

Could be that I'm backwashing too frequently? We've had a lot of live oak flowers in the pool the last month...they break up into little crumbs and go right through the baskets. What's the rule of thumb for backwashing?

Multi-port I guess. It's a Hayward Vari-FLo, 6 position with spring handle in center.

The valve handle on the top of my sand filter has become more stiff and harder to reposition over the last year or so. Is lubricatrion on the inside of the valve needed or common? What sort of lubricant...plumbers grease, lithium?

I think it's bearings but the clicking sound it makes as the shaft slows to a stop seems like something else....bearings usually make a grinding sound. My problem is I have little time or money...repairing my motor could take a few days (I can't get a match on bearings without removing them) and...

My Hayward pump motor is making a whining noise that sounds like a clicking of something stuck in a fan when it's turned off. The pump is 5 years old and the pump part is fine. Any opinions on repairing the motor or replacing with a rebuilt one (about $100 compared to $3-400 for a new pump)

Given the option, is it more economical to run a pump on 220 volts?

I've got a inground pool with sand filter. We're forcast to have the lowest temps in 14 years this weekend. Around 25 degrees for two days. Should I drain the filter or keep it running all day/night?
