    Gizzmo

Hey all, do you have opinions on Gizzmos in the skimmer baskets instead of draining the pool below the skimmer basket? My husband picked these up at the recommendation of a friend to reduce the pressure on the pool cover. I am a little skeptical. What do you think?

    Recent Builder Advice

I learned so much designing my pool from this forum. My takeaway lessons, in no particular order: Test your own water and avail yourself of TFP's tools -- my water is always perfect -- THANK YOU!!! Sun shelf at 12" is too deep -- I'd go 9" or less You don't need step-outs on your perimeter...

    Opening Pool in MidAtlantic Region

Hi pool afficiandos, We opened our pool (new one year ago) this weekend. PH was out of whack (new plaster), CL was low, but pool held 'er own! TPF is a solid approach. Lost a gasket from the pump, found it in the pool, oops. :-) H

    Water is Gorgeous

... and sparkling!! TFP rocks!! Husband says: freakin' awesome. Yea, he's 52 going on 12. At the very least, we can confirm that chemistry is indeed a science ;-) << that comment is directed to the rio pool managers. We're winding our way through summer in our new pool without any water...

    Rain Rain Go Away

Quick newbie question: its been raining nonstop for about a week now, and the water in our new pool is more than halfway up the skimmers at this point -- for the first time. Should we aggressively drain it, or just wait and see if evaporation does the trick? Whats the rule of thumb?

    OMG -- Help!

Today my PB came by to add salt and start the SWG. My husband just called and said that the PB also added several buckets of stabilizer (?) to our pool even though Greg told him I had already balanced our pool chemistry. Our CYA was at 60 before this addition -- and I had an additional pound...

Pool Accessories - What Do You Have

So I just ordered a pair of teak steamers for poolside -- a pool without plaster or water yet. I'm waiting for water to actually order my test kit. What else am I gonna need when summer rolls around? :rendeer: I want to create something like this...

Waterline Tile Size - Are 6" tiles too big for curvy pool?

So our PB thinks 6" waterline tiles are too big for the curves on our pool. We have 4' and 2x8' inside radii (?), and a 6' outside radius. He suggested 3x3's. What do you think - does it matter? Our selected 6" tile doesn't come in 2" or 3" tiles. Sigh.

    Polaris verses Robot

Our PB has spec'd a Polaris into our just-signed contract -- is there any reason at all why we should add a Polaris, or should we just get a robot? Polaris line-item expense is over $900, no doubt because of the added plumbing costs.

    Can I Get Your Opinion?

Hi there, We're about to sign a contract for 450 sf curvy concrete pool (gulp) after meeting with 5 different PB's and I was hoping to hear from you if this combination of finishes will work. We're hoping to create a very organic looking pool nestled in gardens. I'm not 100% sure what stone...

    Need design advice regarding slopes

Hi pool aficionados, A landscaper/PB came by today to discuss our project, curvy inground pool, and he threw us for a big loop: He thinks we should excavate the grassed area where the pool and new patios will go down 2 feet to match the grade of the adjoining patio, and build low retaining...

So why are you building a pool NOW??

This is a question we immediately got from PB#5 yesterday, but we've heard it before! :-) Our kids are sorta "all grown up", 20-23, college fees are all addressed in the budget, and we have enough to splurge on a pool. And I won't have to watch the pool for little kid-friend activities. What...

    Do you use your sunshelf?

My husband and I don't agree on whether to include a sunshelf in our pool design. What is your opinion? We are meeting with PCs to design and build a 450-500 sf curvy pool with a 12"x8'x10' sunshelf and 2 additional bench seats in other areas. I would like a decent sized sunshelf tucked into...
