Repair advice for concrete coping chip?

The coping of my cantilever patterned concrete patio is chipping at the base of my raised beam wall water feature. Can anybody suggest a product to repair and/or seal the chip before it breaks off? Ideally, the least visible repair the better (obviously). Thank you, -Tom

Opinions request for return eyeball direction in free-form pool

Hey ladies and gents. This is my 2nd summer with my new pool, first one was setup and winterized by the pool builder. I would like to hear your opinions about how I should angle my return jet eyeballs in this pool. I don't have the exact number or returns, would have to go count them...

    Rain flooded pool pump area

For the first season ever, and the 2nd time this year, my pool pump area was flooded with rain water and the pump motor got 1/2 submerged. This time I was not at home at the time to unplug the pump, and it short circuited, possibly for good. I'm thinking the best way to avoid this in the...

What, me worry? (aka Spider Gasket insurance)

I was searching for posts on leaks and noticed an awful lot of posts about leaking spider gaskets. I have had my fair share of spider gasket leaks, so thought I would post a pic of this simple 'improvement' I came up with this year. No more worrying about wasting my water thru a spider gasket...

November 1 and I want to run the robot one last time

Here we are in eastern PA, November 1 and, as usual, I am finally getting around to winterizing the pipes. Put the security cover on a month ago, and did all the rest of the closing activities; final cleaning, chems, pump shutdown/drain/removal, etc. As I peeled back the security cover to get...

Taylor R-0003 reagent #3 turned blue in the bottle

Today I noticed my R-0003 reagent #3 turned blue in the bottle. I have the K-2006 kit. Last time I used this reagent, about a week ago, it was perfectly clear. I searched and only found that it goes bad by turning yellow. I left my kit outside last week as the temps were in the 60s during...

Deep cleaning Dolphin polyester fiber filters

Does anyone have a recommended way to do a good deep cleaning of the fine polyester fiber filters used on the Dolphins (mine is a Nautilus Plus)? I always simply spray them with a garden hose ever each use. But for the end of season before I put the Dolphin away in storage, I'd like to deep...

Is an elevated target FC/CYA ratio a bad idea?

Would it be a bad idea (for me, at least) to target a higher FC/CYA ratio than is shown in the chart? My simple thinking is that if I target 15%, it would allow me an extra few days if I get too busy to test or care for the pool chems. Are there any downsides to doing this? -R

Calculating my pool volume - or - Geometry is fun!

For years I have wanted to do a precise calculation of the gallon size of my pool. I've used many online calculators and have gotten about as many different estimates as there are calculators out there. The answer doesn't matter that much, I just really wanted to figure it out, do the math...

    Clear rigid PVC

Since the summer season here in the northeast US is waning, I just wanted to post about a customization I made to my system this season that worked out very well. I replaced the PE, PVC, and ABS pipes around my pump and filter with clear rigid schedule 40 PVC pipe. The installation was easy...

After 22 years, so much to learn!

Greetings, I've been a pool owner in northeast PA for 22 years, a lifegaurd/pool cleaner/water tester before that, and I thought I knew it all. Turns out I had relatively little knowledge and probably a whole lot of luck. Lately some persistent problems drove me to seek out this forum and I...

    Backwash

My water is crystal clear and when I backwash after a week (no pressure rise), the backwash water is very green, like pea soup color, for a minute. I only backwash because I know the gunk is sitting in the filter and I feel I should get it outta there. Is this wrong? Am I just wasting water?
