    fighting algae again

Well I'm happy to say that for the first time I was able to see the main drain in the bottom of the deep end. I have been keeping the FC round 20 and letting the filter slowly do its job. Since I could finally see the bottom I was able to scoop out some of the 50+ acorns on the bottom. I...

    fighting algae again

Yeah i have no idea how the people before me could keep it clean with that filter but can't afford a new one right now, but I have been checking craiglist often. A new filter is top of the list for next summer. I will grab a skimmer sock and try that out. Thanks again for the advice.

    fighting algae again

Yes I added all 15 gals one night and the pool was blue the next morning. However the pool stayed cloudy for next two weeks and never really got clear, so I guess I never got rid of the algae the first time. Update pool is almost back to blue this morning so added a about 2 more gals of 12.5%...

Well the pool is really cloudy and green with algae I think. I have been brushing when I add the clorine, but its diffacult since I can 't really see the brush after it goes more than 3 ft into the pool. The Algae started when I moved into the house August 1st. I battled with it for a while...

    Filter big enough?

Update: Last night I opened the filter ( it has a wasteband so it splits in two) and removed the old sand. I was only able to add 100lbs of new sand which is about an 10-12 inch bed of sand. Closed it all up and it is running good. Only thing is my PSI is only at 7. The returns are like spa...

    Filter big enough?

The filter is made of stainless steel so no fiber glass. I think I will get a 300lb+ sand filter with a new valve since my old valve is also probaly the same age as the filter and only has two setings (filter, Backwash). I will get some pics off this filter so you guys can laugh at how old it is...

The filter on the other hand must be 20+ years old sand filter. I opened it up the other day since it has a band...

    FC testing question

Hi All, I have just jumped into the pool game with the house I purchased this week. I'm fighting a green pool with the advice on this site. I purchased a FAS-DPD Service Test Kit today. I'm trying to shock the pool now, but how do I test for FC levels above 10ppm. The kit only seems to go to...
