    Ok I have a new issue...but water's still clear ?

It is a Kevlar reinforced vinyl that according to my dealer is resistant to chemical, weather, and bullets (of all things, lol). The people giving me advice did not say anything about bleaching. As we do not drain our pool and put away each season- it's a little less portable than say an Intex...

    New Liner and fresh water

Sherry I too had the high CYA (also 100) and gross green slime along with high PH. Whole thing went to Hades in a hand basket in what seemed like overnight but I now know better. Did the drain and all too, was so frustrated with how long the clearing was taking. Thanks to great advice here, I...

    Ok I have a new issue...but water's still clear ?

i thought about covering, but all I have is a solar cover and I was concerned about bringing the water temp that high in August. I already get to 86 on a 95+ day uncovered. Maybe I will just have to have my hubby build the pool enclosure, lol! Thanks for the input! - - - Updated - - - Thank...

    New Liner and fresh water

Waiting to hear the answer on this. I too am losing somewhere between 2.5-3ppm per day. My CYA is around 45, and our pool is uncovered and in full sun the majority of the day too. Good luck to you!

    Ok I have a new issue...but water's still clear ?

So I was going to be gone for a long weekend so I bumped FC to 20 last Friday evening to compensate for not being around for 3 days to test. Didn't want to chance the green lagoon again. When I got home Monday night I tested again and FC was at 2ppm. I have 0 cc, and clear water, no algae...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Sorry...hazards of working in HVAC in the summer. Thanks to some good advice here I am sparkling clear and clean once again with no traces of algae. Maintaining Good PH and CYA levels and FC is right where it should be. Thank you again to everyone for the help!

    So frustrated...please advise!

Sorry all, a little sarcasm. My filter always runs 24-7...from the day I open the pool til the day I close. Just trying to lighten my mood- you know like wash, rinse, repeat. Thanks again for the help! - - - Updated - - - Interesting you should mention back washing Ron...I know my gauge...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Good to know-thanks! - - - Updated - - - So I simply maintain FC at shock level until green is gone completely and don't worry about any other readings. Brush, shock, filter, repeat? Just don't want to neglect some thing and then have someone tell me later on that I should have been doing this...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Also should I not worry about CCs right now then? Only test for FC, and maybe once a day check my CCs?
  11. kls1973

    So frustrated...please advise!

I see. I misunderstood the definition of CCs I guess. I did not realize that their presence indicated death to algae, lol. In that case- come on combined chlorines!

    So frustrated...please advise!

Marian- something I said must have made you think cost was a factor, sorry for that. Cost is most definitely NOT the issue here. I am used to $200 a month In chemicals thanks to my wonderful pool store's "advice". Dumping a $3 bottle of chlorine in multiple times a day is preferential to green...

so theoretically...me. - - - Updated - - - so I want CC to be at .5? I thought the goal was 0. I must be looking at this all wrong... - - - Updated - - - Ive just recently become privy to the fact that pool stores are the devil! - - - Updated - - - gorgeous Ron!

    So frustrated...please advise!

One other thing I've noticed, and maybe someone can shed some light...when my FC registers somewhere between 16-18 I have 0 CC. If it builds closer to 20 (which it has been a couple times when liquid was added a little heavier) I end up with .5? Would there be a reason for this?

    So frustrated...please advise!

Ron thank you. That's all I am really looking for is a point in the future to look towards. In 7 years of pool ownership I have never had an issue like this. Anytime I have had a clarity issue, it's generally been rectified within a couple days. While this didn't occur overnight, it did happen...

    So frustrated...please advise!

That's just it Dave- I would drain it and be done for the season. I'm not doubting the advice I've been given, I'm asking at what point do I say all the advice I've been given and have been following to a tee has not worked, 4 days, 7, 14? I want to get a feel for an appropriate time frame so I...

    So frustrated...please advise!

i use a TF100 kit and feel confident about the readings I am getting from my tests. My filter has brand new sand and no broken lats, good pressure. I bought 10 gals of LC from Menards (12.5%) at $2.99 a gal and that's what I've been using since Wednesday. I thought about running FC up to 24...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Because CYA is subjective- i.e. Some of us have better vision than others- it is hard to say definitively what my CYA actually was, however I did use the "pool water" sample to compare to what my reading was and I calculate my CYA at 40 based on that test. However since I felt it could fall...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Ok. So I've been SLAM-Ing for 3 straight days. 1st day I checked FC every 2 hrs but figured that was inaccurate since it takes 4hrs for my pool to do a complete turnover. Started testing every 4 and have been maintaining 19ppm, adding liquid chlorine at about 11oz or so each 4 hrs to keep at...

    So frustrated...please advise!

So theoretically, since my OCLT last night indicated a gain in FC, one would think that I had no algae eating up my chlorine. However my pool is still green and cloudy, so we know that assumption to be inaccurate. The flip side to this is that during the day today, which I might mention has had...
  22. kls1973

    So frustrated...please advise!

If this is the case, can you explain the effectiveness of the OCLT? Wouldn't 1ppm be subjective? I mean 1 ppm could be any percentage of chlorine loss based on what your FC was at the start. Yet the test specifically reads "if your FC level remained the same, or went down by 1.0 or less, the...

    So frustrated...please advise!

So my next question: if 16ppm is good for 40 CYA is 20ppm better? I am maintaining 18, just wondered if there was any harm in running it up to 20? Will it help the algae to clear faster?

Yes...patience is not my strong suit- more of an instant gratification kinda gal, lol! Thanks for the input!
  25. kls1973

    So frustrated...please advise!

I performed OCLT last night and actually gained 1 ppm on FC. It doesn't seem that I am losing chlorine now, so I planned to keep testing FC about every 2 hrs to test and adjust if necessary. I won't bother with the PH since you say it is unreliable right now. Thanks for the advice. - - -...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Ok...so here is the latest... Pool is still green although it seems to be getting lighter. Main thing is it is still cloudy. I have brushed and or vacuumed every evening for the last 5 days. After testing with the TF-100 kit I have the following readings: PH 7.5 FC 13 CC .5 CYA 40 TA 130...

Getting green cloud back on startup of filter

Dave since I have all kinds of issues- which you've seen from my other post- I figure I'll ask a backwash question from last year: I've always been told to backwash once my pressure increases over start up by 10 psi. My psi never seems to increase. It always stays right in the middle of start...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Thanks for the advice! - - - Updated - - - Dave I will do so. I hate people who aske for advice and then do what they want. Why did you even ask? Yes NE Kansas has been an inferno for the past couple weeks. We cut down a tree last winter that used to mostly shade the pool because it wouldn't...

    So frustrated...please advise!

Yes I am following this process. Right now it's very difficult though because of the limitations on my PH block. I don't know if I am hitting the proper ppm for chlorine with its limitations. My new kit will be here Friday. Should I just keep testing CYA until then and SLAM-ing for a "perceived"...
