Suction-side Leak: How worried should I be?

Thanks @bongardjm, its very helpful to nknow that you fixed your issue that way, I'll give that a try for sure. I also should have mentioned that I believe my valve which controls the spa/pool suction is broken. The handle on that one will rotate 360 deg. while all of my other valve handles...

Suction-side Leak: How worried should I be?

I have a suction-side leak - no doubt about it - as there is a bubble of air in the top of my pump and I see air bubbling up from the returns in the floor of the pool. Additionally, I sometimes have trouble reaching prime when my suction is set to come from the pool side (as opposed to spa)...

    Pool Math........The App

Just installed the beta and I am very excited. So far, so good but I am at work and looking forward to getting home this evening, running my tests, logging results and making my adjustments. Nice work!

    My new custom Test Kit

In my case, the only thing that gets carried around is the water sample bottle. Everything else is kept in the utility room next to the sink.

    My new custom Test Kit

Ha - thanks for the comment kimkats. The foam came from some flooring I had bought a while back at Harbor Freight for my home garage gym. It is much like this at Amazon, but I couldn't find the same at Harbor Freight's website today. The ones I have don't have that "faux metal" treatment...

    My new custom Test Kit

After a while, the TFP method is soooo good that you have to turn your attention to other pursuits. I stole this idea from someone else on this forum, but added my own touch as well. Since I now have test chemicals, a speedstir, digital pH meter and assorted vials,a large water sample bottle...

    Pool Math........The App

Re: Pool Math........The App I'm very excited about this! For several years now I've been using PoolMath and tracking results in my own cloud-based spreadsheet. This will be so much more convenient and probably result in me doing a better job overall

Central Texas Pollen - Update with Storm mess

I think the worst is finally behind us for the catkins. This morning was the second day in a row for me to not find a significant amount floating in the pool or on the deck. There does still appear to be a small amount in the trees however. I recently found this historical pollen chart on...

    FAS-DPD Powder Scoop Replacement

Thanks for the tips. I probably need a whole new batch of powder anyway as mine is very clumpy due to a moisture influx. It seems to work and measure the FC well, but I get a bunch of black residue coating the inner walls of the tube when I'm done.

    FAS-DPD Powder Scoop Replacement

Somehow we have lost the little blue scoop used to measure out the powder used for the FAS-DPD Chorine test. Anyone have ideas on what best to use as a replacement? For now I guess I will fold a small piece of paper in half, sprinkle on some powder and shake off what looks like the excess. I...

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

Thanks - I think I will try out that periodic FC test just for the heck of it! - - - Updated - - - Question for @chem_geek : Could aeration overnight have offset that pH change from the acid addition?

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

I hear you on testing before adjusting. Keep in mind that it was 9:20PM and it was going to be at least 2 hours for the water to turn over before I could get an accurate test. I didn't consider aerating to be an adjustment since there is no way I know to quantify the effect. So instead, I...

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

Interestingly, the pH measured this morning at 8.0. It was 7.6 two nights ago, which was the last time I measured. I can only suppose that the maximum aeration, combined with the pH buffering effects of the borates previously added help to keep the pH from dropping substantially when the acid...

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

No kidding, unfortunately he seems to sleep-walk his way through things that don't catch his fancy. I just had to march him back outside as he left the bleach jug, opened, sitting on the patio table. Oh, the joys of parenthood. I also had forgotten that I have three "water arc" features that...

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

I forgot about the aeration effect on pH and I do have a return from the spa to the pool as well as a "bubbler" on the tanning ledge. I guess I'll direct all the return volume to those tonight, run the pump through the night and then measure pH in the morning.

Son just added Acid instead of Bleach

I have been transitioning my daily maintenance to my 13 year old son as he wanted to do more chores in order to increase his allowance. As he came in the back door this evening, I noticed he was carrying an acid jug instead of bleach. I learned of course that he had just poured 70 oz into the...

    TFP Care as Stress Relief

I've been working a lot from home for the past week and coordinating a difficult contract negotiation between my company and another. I think it's good that I started the TFP method last week because it is giving me a sense of control over SOMETHING. I find myself conducting water tests about...

Just a "Thank You" and need advice on algae on water feature rocks.

Spraying the diluted bleach has worked pretty well. Thanks for the tip. There are a few stubborn spots left, but for the most part its all gone. The pool is maintaining FC levels pretty well, so the remaining algae is not wreaking any havoc.

Great tip! It never would have occurred to me to try a "localized treatment" with bleach. I'll give that a try today if I can find a suitable bottle around the house. Any thoughts on the dilution? I have 8.25% HDX bleach at the house now.

    My Newly Cleaned Pool

Sure thing - the PB was Millenium Pools in Austin. They don't normally do work all the way out here in Georgetown, but the owner is a friend/associate of a good friend of ours so we felt very comfortable doing business with them. I can certainly recommend them based on how it turned out for...

    My Newly Cleaned Pool

The backyard and deck area needs to be picked up, but I'm excited enough by the fact that I just passed an OCLT for the first time that I thought I would share some pictures. [/IMG] [/IMG] [/IMG]

Just a "Thank You" and need advice on algae on water feature rocks.

Amazingly, I think my first SLAM is successfully complete. I just checked my FC a little while back and it dropped from 4.5 last night to 3.5 this morning. I had (barely) 0.5 of CC after registering no CC last night. The moss rock area looks good, although I still see some algae in hard to...

Just a "Thank You" and need advice on algae on water feature rocks.

I stumbled across this site about two weeks ago, just before I left on vacation for a week. I had just received my K-2006 test kit, but hadn't gotten around to using it as I was experiencing a leaky pump and trying to deal with that. Now that the pump is all fixed, I began TFPC a couple of...
