    Need Help! Opening pool

Chris...not sure what area of the country you're in, but I'm in Michigan. My skimmer has 2 holes in-line with the water flowing into the skimmer. It sort of looks like this: O O <-------Water flowing into skimmer. The first one (on the left) is plumbed to the equipment, the other one is...

Please Help - Backyard Design for New Pool Build

Okay, please no comments from the peanut gallery. I whipped this out in about 5 minutes when the boss wasn't looking. It's obviously not to scale, and looks like my 4 year old drew it. I swear I've been legally able to vote for more than 20 years. :-D You could obviously add more planting...

    My Pool

Not now. I must confess that the next size up for us would have been an 18x43x28. At the time I remember trying to talk the DW into it, complete with Tim "the toolman" Taylor grunts. Now that the pool is built I have no regrets. There's plenty of room for people, and if I take my time...

    My Pool

For what it's worth, we have a 16x41x24 L-shape pool with 2 lights. I can't imagine the pool with a single fixture, I think it would be insufficient.

Ready to purchase inground pool which filter is best De/Sand

Re: Ready to purchase inground pool which filter is best De/ Here is a link to articles that I found useful regarding the 3 types of filtration when I was doing some research a couple of years back. http://www.poolcenter.com/filter.htm We went with D.E. and have been happy so far. I don't...

The Cabana - A Work In Progress

The countertop is constructed of a marine plywood base, tiled with some economical glass tiles we found at Menard's, grouted white, and then trimmed (edge band) in Poplar 1x and painted out with an exterior grade white latex paint. The doors' base material is plywood, and the exterior is...

    Dog Days of Winter

Ouch. Yeah, it's been a pretty mild winter for us this year. I'm not complaining...but even if it were just a dusting it's still snow and that means no pool. What were my ancestors thinking, settling in Michigan? Dagnabbit!

    Plannin a pool in MI.

Does anyone on here have concerns using SWG with galvanized steel walls? We have a structural polymer wall system and so I've never given it any thought myself.

    Plannin a pool in MI.

We love our true-L pool. Our equipment set-up is very similar to yours with the exception that our heater is 400,000 BTUs on a smaller pool. I'm not an expert by any means, and it may be that ours is overkill, but I think I'd want to ask about that. I'm sure there are a lot of people on this...

    Two Questions Regarding Pool Construction

We went with Scheidel Pool out of Conklin, Michigan. Here's a link to their website: http://www.scheidelpools.com/ BTW - Dave's much better at building pools then he is at keeping the website up to date I see.

head hurts from banging it against the wall

The reason old adages (or sayings) stick with us is because they're inherently true, and so it is in this instance as well. Like the saying goes, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink. You can give people all the advice in the world, but it doesn't mean they'll take it...

    Two Questions Regarding Pool Construction

Our pool was built in the summer of 2009 in Michigan. I can't speak to your first question, but as for the second our pool only has the bonding grid under a portion of the deck. You can see a picture of it in the photo I've attached below. The contractor used what's called fiber mesh in the...

    Ground Cover/Grass near pool deck?

Have you considered Liriope as a possibility? Here's a link that might be helpful: http://landscaping.about.com/od/ornamentalgrasses/p/liriope_grass.htm You only have to mow it once per year in the Spring, it spreads via rhizomes, is excellent for erosion control and tough to kill. As with...

The Cabana - A Work In Progress

Melt, since it's not my goal to offend anyone I went home last evening and immediately changed the "r" to a "z". Now, on the subject of Mardi Gras, I'll have to come to your pool in 2011 since March 8th is a little too soon to have our pool open in Michigan.

Token's Pool Build - Need Quote Feedback

Token, I see where you're going, although it's still a little strange to me since we have a traditional L-shape set-up. The most logical way to run the safety rope would be from the inside corner of the L straight South, which I think is also what you were saying. I'm really surprised that the...

Token's Pool Build - Need Quote Feedback

Token, I've never seen an L-shaped pool configured the way you have it, granted I haven't been around the pool game all that long, about 3 years. What made you set it up the way you have it, because your deep end really messes up the shallow end. Lap swimming perhaps? I see safety issues with...
