    Totally Confused

Nevermind. My daughter just reminded me that this is the first time we opened with a 0 ammonia reading. ( I use my aquarium tester, which is drops, not test strips). The past years I had ammonia to deal with.

    Totally Confused

Thank you for the quick reply. I will continue to SLAM. I was just confused because every other time I SLAMed my chlorine consumption was a lot higher, sometimes with all of the free chlorine consumed overnight.

    Totally Confused

Hello everyone! First, thank you for freeing me from the pool store. This is my third year using TFP. Quick background: Tried to open pool at the end of April, found my skimmer was cracked. Landlord took 4 weeks to replace (can't complain, he is great, if slow). Had a total black swamp...

...the next steps - making sure this is correct

I am no expert, but I had similar situation. Moved into a house with a pool that had been ignored for 2+ years. Water was green/black. A diligent SLAM cleared it. This site is a lifesaver!

    Bather Load

I keep reading about "high bather load". Is there a way to calculate it? Or is it just trial and error, keeping track of number of people and how testing is affected?

    Chlorine, Ammonia, and bather load

Thank you everyone! I will raise the chlorine tonight, like zea3 said. If I'm still not happy with it, I will slam again!

    Chlorine, Ammonia, and bather load

Sorry. OCLT results: Evening: FC 4.5 CC 0 Morning: FC 3.5 CC 0 So I lost about 1 ppm of FC overnight. The bather load was extreme and unusual...both kids agreed to have friends on the same days...usually if one has friends over, the other refuses to use pool. They can't agree on the time...

    Chlorine, Ammonia, and bather load

Results of OCLT were as follows: FC 3.5 CC 0 Where is the chlorine going? Should I do a SLAM? Is there some type of formula for bather load, that is "math-easy"? Talked to kids and hubby about number of people in the pool...pointless...hubby is retired and loves playing host.

    Chlorine, Ammonia, and bather load

First a confession...I cheated on my SLAM. Started SLAMming and pool was just eating chlorine. I ran out of one of the chemicals to test the chlorine. I had to order it online, as no one carried it. (Side note: Leslie's Pools will never get another penny from me for anything! Sent me on...

    Should ammonia be zero?

Apologies if this is in the wrong section. Should ammonia readings be zero? My reading is less than .25. I have goldfish aquariums, so I have ammonia tests. BTW, don't use the test strips from the pet store. They are as bad as the test strips from the pool store. Use the drop test.

    SLAMming my swamp

Not going to happen fast :(. Over the course of the last two weeks, I've had so many distractions and have only been able to attend the SLAM 2-3 times a day. But now I finally have the time. As you can see, the green is gone! I can just see the bottom when vacuuming.

    SLAMming my swamp

Finally getting to my pool. Long story...during the winter the cover blew off and froze to itself so I couldn't re-cover it. Pool was full of leaves and other stuff. After dealing with the debris, a leaking pump, a week of rain, and a torn achilles tendon...I am ready to SLAM this swamp...

    We just want to swim!

I want to thank everyone who has helped me. I had to stop my SLAMing early tonight because my kids took us out for a surprise, early father's day dinner, then we came home to a thunderstorm. But my last reading had the FC at 13, so it seems to be working. I'm going to start again early...

    We just want to swim!

For those of you following, I've been adding the liquid chlorine at the amount from the pool math page. 10 am test 3 ppm 11:15 test 3 ppm 12:30 test 3 ppm 3:00 test 3 ppm Long break because I had to buy more chlorine. Am I on the right track? Thanks in advance!

    We just want to swim!

Sorry, I missed the part about vacuuming. Test numbers after about 1 1/2 from first test this morning: fc-3 TC-3 CC-0 pH 8.2 TA 220 CH240 CYA 30 According to the site's pool math, I added 1 qt, 2 cups and 3oz. The test numbers from before I started are above in a previous post Is that what...

    We just want to swim!

I didn't get to test after I started SLAMing last night, it got too dark, so I don't know how much FC I lost during the night. Am I supposed to just test for FC during the SLAM or everything? This mornings reading was FC 1, so I added the recommended chlorine (64 oz) that the pool math said to...

    We just want to swim!

Re: Hi from Julia I bought the Leslie's 18-676, which is listed as Taylor k-2005. It says: Total Poolcare DPD test kit Free and total Chlorine pH Acid & Base Demand total Alkalinity Calcium Hardness Cyanuric Acid Your list says I need the FAS/DPD test? Can you tell me what that tests? I...
