How to remove thick layer of leave on bottom of green pool

I have the TF-100 kit. My levels are: FC-0 The pool is green. Any chlorine gets consumed rather quickly. CC-0 pH-7.6 TA-70 CYA- 30 I don't typically test for CH. Isn't that for concrete pools? Mine is vinyl. I've read through the links provided. The only related comment I could find was...

How to remove thick layer of leave on bottom of green pool

I have a pool at a house where I don't live. We moved away, and I get by the old house about every other week. I've had the pool for several years, and I've never been particularly good at getting it clear in the spring. This year, I wasn't living there in the spring, so my pool treatment...

    Adding tabs as a backup

Is it ok to mix tabs & liquid? Let's say I want to keep the FC at 4 with tabs. I put in a couple of floaters, then check it after a couple of days. Say It's around 2. So can I add liquid to bring it up to 4, then adjust my floaters (say, add another one) to see what it takes to maintain FC at...

    Adding tabs as a backup

We've been having trouble staying stocked in liquid chlorine lately. I've been thinking of adding the means to use tabs, especially when my CYA is low. Good idea? Bad idea? I know that tabs raise CYA, but mine is at 35 right now. I either need to add some stabilizer or start using tabs for a...

    Is my main drain clogged?

Not sure what you mean by "deep end skimmer". The pool has a single skimmer on the shallow end, and a drain at the bottom of the deep end. No diverter valve. I have a valve in the drain line, but not in the skimmer line. Closing that should increase flow through the skimmer. When I close it...

    Is my main drain clogged?

Thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunately, I can't turn off all the inputs except the drain. There is no valve in the skimmer line. OK. Missed on the terminology. We have a Polaris cleaner. I did another dive to the bottom of the deep end, and I can't detect any temperature difference at the...

    Is my main drain clogged?

Recently, I decided to get out my snorkel gear, and play with it some. While playing around, I decided to swim down to my main drain, which is at the bottom of the deep end, 8ft below the surface. I cautiously put my hand on the grate, and I didn't feel any suction. I should be able to feel...

Pool turning green despite FC at recommended level

No. I'm targeting the high end of the maintenance (as opposed to SLAM) level. What do you mean by "target 10% of CYA"?

Pool turning green despite FC at recommended level

I did not know that brushing was needed. Thanks.

Pool turning green despite FC at recommended level

Our pool is in N AL, and has been open all Winter. We've been running the pump for 4 hr/day for most of the Winter. Recently, it's gotten a bit cloudy, so I upped it to 6 hr/day. The weather is warming, and the pool is turning green, despite the FC level, which we've been maintaining. The...

    Screaming pump

Never mind. I just found out that the bearings are cheap, and fairly easy to replace. This will be MUCH cheaper than replacement. I should be able to fix both motors, and have a backup.

    Screaming pump

The bearings are screaming, just like the original motor failure. My pump leaks a bit. It's always leaked a little, but I thought that the motors were sealed. I'm thinking now that they may not be. Where would I find a re-builder? The original motor, which I still have, probably just needs new...

    Screaming pump

I ordered the new motor, received it on 8/17/16, replaced the bad motor, and the "new" one just died today. Warranty is 12 months.:shock: Well, #$%! So... what would it take to replace it with a 2-speed? Can I just replace the motor and timer? I found a 2-speed with the same frame. Can I...

Grounding for pump and underwater light

I did a little research. In 2008 the NEC code for bonding changed. At that point, there was no requirement for bonding to the service panel. Has that changed?

Grounding for pump and underwater light

Already decided to do that. The pool light is already on a GFCI breaker. I LIKE the idea of all power around my pool getting GFCI protection. Yes, GFCI trips often when it shouldn't, but that's a small price compared to getting electrocuted. Back to the ground bar in the sub panel.... does it...

Grounding for pump and underwater light

Thanks. This is the main question I needed answered. How about downsizing the feed to the pump? And downsizing the breaker? The pump is rated for 7.6A max in 220V operation. If I were to use a 15A breaker, would I need to replace the THWN to the pump with 14ga? When I bury the conduit, I'll...

Grounding for pump and underwater light

The sub panel is fed with a 220V feed. 4 wires of stranded 12 ga THWN in 3/4" non-metallic (NM) flexible conduit. The feed wires are red (hot), black (hot), white (neutral), and green (ground). This sounds like the wire going from the pump housing to the underside of the pad. It's a double...

Grounding for pump and underwater light

Same here. I understand this, which is why I thought that the pool light circuit was wired wrong. The bare wire going to the pool light is connected to the sub panel neutral. FYI, from here on, I'm going to refer to wires as: hot wire, neutral, green wire, bare wire, etc. This is to avoid...

I read it. I must still be confused, because it didn't answer my questions.

Grounding for pump and underwater light

This winter, the wiring to the sub panel for my pool developed an open. The weather finally cooperated enough for me to replace it, but I have some questions regarding grounding. I don't think the wiring and conduit fittings that were on there meet code. The PVC is the flexible non-metallic...

Filter housing top cover won't come off.

I did this today. It made a HUGE difference in how much effort it took to tighten down the filter cover. I guess it's been dry since we first got it.

Filter housing top cover won't come off.

I'm considering putting that e-clip on a yearly maintenance (replacement) schedule. As mentioned in the article, they're cheap. I think my problem was the big o-ring was dry. I'm guessing that having it well coated with silicone would have prevented this.

Filter housing top cover won't come off.

A follow up. Once it got warm enough and dry enough to work on this, the cover popped right off as normal. The cold must have had an effect.

Do I need a GFCI breaker for my pump?

This was my thought as well. I'm an electrical engineer, but I don't work with AC power or electric motors. But I still understand that an AC motor has lethal levels of electricity running not far from the armature shaft, which is connected to the impeller. Not concerned about code in this...

Do I need a GFCI breaker for my pump?

I have a sub panel next to my pad, with a 240V breaker feeding my pump (through a timer). It just occurred to me that the pump is not GFCI protected. I did a bit of reading here, and it appears that it was built to code, but the code has since changed, and it would not be compliant now. Others...

Filter housing top cover won't come off.

Jammed maybe. I waited until the temps were above 50 for a couple of days. Should have been thawed if it had been frozen. That was my thought, too. So I waited until the weather pretty much guaranteed that it wasn't frozen. - - - Updated - - - Thanks. I'll give this a try.

Filter housing top cover won't come off.

We don't close our pool for the winter, as the temps don't get all that low around here. But it DOES get below freezing on occasion. A couple of weeks ago, we got a cold snap. I don't know that this has anything to do with anything, but I thought it should be mentioned. Anyway. After the temps...
